- Maalox (Maalox has been backordered so we actually used Gaviscon. Try that or the store’s generic for Maalox.)
- Aquaphor or A&D ointment (We used Aquaphor.)
- Using a cotton ball, coat the affected area with Maalox and let it dry completely. The Maalox takes away all the burn and redness. (To be honest, I just dipped my {clean} hands right into the bottle and smeared it all over his little bottom.)
- Once the Maalox has dried (it will look chalky) rub a layer of Aquaphor and/or A&D ointment over the affected area. (This will create a protective barrier.)
HELLO!
April 13th, 2013Man oh man…has it been a while, or what?? I’m not even sure I remember my way around this rusty ol’ blog. More importantly, is anyone out there? :-)
So much has (and has not) transpired in the past several months! We’ve been busy, busy! For starters, let’s chat about what has NOT happened. As crazy as it sounds, we thought we were moving. Not once, but twice. While the last few months felt like quite the roller coaster — enter: prepping the house, re-organizing, purging, calculating, yada, yada, yada — we are thrilled to be staying put…for now, anyway.
As for what HAS been going on…well, my babies have been growing like weeds. Every new milestone, every new found level of maturity, is beautiful and exciting. Though that comes with the sadness that they are growing WAY TOO FAST, I try to focus on the former and not so much on the latter.
Our little G-man is almost three years old. THREE! Did you hear that? At two-and-a-half months shy of his third birthday, our oldest is SO MUCH FUN. A toot? Definitely. Brilliant, funny, energetic, fascinating, independent, loving? Yes, yes, yes and yes. (Not enough yes’s, huh?) He is absolutely wonderful to be with. I love running errands with him and all of our silly and awesome conversations. I could listen to him talk for hours and find fascinating the way his little mind works. And, he and daddy are starting to do a lot of father-son outings like hitting balls at the driving range, going to the soccer fields, having batting practice and so much more. Watching that relationship develop is so rewarding.

As for the little Nugget? Brace yourself. He is about to turn ONE! Plain and simple, I can not believe that he is already 10 1/2 months old. I absolutely love getting to know him. To mention just a few, our little spitfire started walking at about 9 months, is really starting to “talk,” and is on the heels of his big brother (AT ALL TIMES). He is into everything — especially if G is. He’s a loud little booger (gee, I remember writing that about G) and definitely makes himself heard. Fortunately, he’s been much easier on us than G in the sleeping department. No, he wasn’t one of those “magical” babies that sleeps through the night from day one, but he’s older now and has matured into a pretty acceptable sleep pattern. On a typical night, I don’t have to get up with him until 4:30 or 5 am and that makes me happy. :-)

The hubbster is doing phenomenal as well, both personally and professionally. He is a very hard worker and is just as committed in his daddy role. I couldn’t be luckier. (Don’t be fooled by the measly two lines of this post I’ve dedicated to him…he is one of the ties that bind and he knows it!)
Aside from taking care of our little foursome, I’ve had my hands in a gazillion around-the-house projects. See, when we thought we were moving, we started preparing the house for the market; i.e. doing ALL of the things we’d talked for years about doing (re-painting, new blinds, repairing a few things, etc, etc). When we realized we weren’t moving, we decided that it is really no fun to live in a house full of “I’d love to change that’s.” So…we charged forward. With new paint colors comes new decor, right? Yay! The entire house has been transformed to a clean light gray color palette. My happy place. And, I’ve been having a lot of fun redecorating. It takes a loooooong time with two kids in tow, but it’s coming along.
Not to mention, I’m loving my blossoming little stationery business, Dapper Prints. My new Etsy shop keeps me extra occupied but it has been a great addition to my word-of-mouth business.

I’m going to do my very best to be a better blogger. I have a few things I’m dying to share, including a wonderful (LONG OVERDUE) book review by my dear blogging friend Robin at Pink Dryer Lint.
Have a blessed weekend.
Birchbox | A Few Faves
September 6th, 2012Hello there! Yes, it has been a while. I’m sorry! Life is busy — and doesn’t afford me much time for the blog — but things are going great! Family as a foursome is fantastic and we are settled into a nice little routine. For now, anyway. Not to mention, in my not-so-spare time, I’m working on the start-up of my new stationery shop. This has me very excited and I can’t wait for my samples to be ready. Patience, patience.
In the meantime, I thought I’d pop in to share a few of my faves from my recent Birchboxes. Are you familiar with Birchbox? It’s super fun. For $10 a month (less if you pay for the year up front), members receive a little goodie box each month filled with samples of beauty and lifestyle products — creams, polish, makeup, snacks, etc. The idea is pretty simple: Birchbox provides members with the latest products in sample size, so we can try them, first, without buying an entire tube or jar. Perfect. Additionally, if you find an item you love, you can buy the actual size from the Birchbox website at a discounted price and they ship free! Awesome, right?
While it seems like I don’t have a ton of time for hair and/or makeup these days, it’s a lot fun to receive this little treat each month and – as sad as it is to say – reminds me to take a little time to paint my toenails or apply eye liner. :-) And, much to my surprise, I have actually found a few things I’d like to buy.
Here are a few of my recent faves:
Blue-Ming polish by Color Club.
Love this shade. Even though summer is technically over, I can see myself wearing this for a while longer.
Stainiac by theBalm
I’m not a big lipstick wearer. Truthfully, I never wear it. I’m more of a clear gloss kind of gal. However, this seems to be a good compromise. It does NOT have the look of lipstick or even gloss. Literally, it just stains your lips with a bit of color. After it sets in, lips are dry. I like the fact that it gives my lips a little color without looking like I’m wearing lipstick. It lasts a long time, too. If I’m headed out, I like to apply a clear gloss over the top. If I purchase it, I will probably buy the Rosy Pink shade, instead of my sample shade which is Berry Pink. Rosy Pink appears to be a little less bright and more my style. (Oh, and this product is for cheeks, too, though I’ve yet to try it that way.)
Uber Bar (Roasted Nut Roll) by Larabar
Leave it to me to include one of the food items, right?!? Hey, I like a healthy snack just as much as the next gal. Now that I’m nursing again, I’m on a constant lookout for healthy, quick snacks. I like nuts, so, for me, this was scrumptious. G-man liked it, too.
I’m looking forward to this month’s box. I’ll try to pop in and share what I loved. :-)
Giveaway Winner :: Custom Stationery
August 3rd, 2012And, the winner is…
EMILY! {comment #9}

Congrats, Emily! I’ve been in touch and look forward to customizing some stationery for you!
Also, I just have to say how much I enjoyed reading all of your responses about why writing thank you notes is still so important. I couldn’t agree more with each of your sentiments.
Okay, I better run…I need to write a few thank you notes! :-) Have a great weekend and THANKS for entering my little giveaway.
Custom Stationery Giveaway!
July 29th, 2012When G was born, I purchased for him the most darling personalized stationery from Tiny Prints. Love, love, love Tiny Prints! Over the past two years I have used them to write little notes on his behalf — mostly thank-yous — and I have thoroughly enjoyed having them. So when baby N came along, I wanted him to have cute, personalized cards, too! (Naturally, right?!?!?)
This time, however, I decided to make them myself, putting to use the {basic} Photoshop skills I’ve acquired over the past few years. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.

In fact, I had so much fun making them that I made one for little girls, too, knowing that they’d make great gifts.

What do you think?
Like ‘em?
If that’s a yes, then read on…because…
I’m giving away a set of 25 personalized cards!
Don’t have a wee one? Have more than one wee one? That’s alright…the set can be divided amongst your kiddos or I can personalize them with a family name instead. And, if you’d like a more generic card, I can leave off the “thank you”… :-)

Winner will receive one set of 25 personalized cards and 25 white, square-flap envelopes!

Diaper Rash Cure: Maalox
July 26th, 2012Never before had either of my boys battled diaper rash. Sure, we’d dealt with the occasional and slight redness, but nothing a little California Baby Calendula and/or Burt’s Bees cream couldn’t fix. So, when G developed the nastiest case of diaper rash I’d ever seen — thanks to playing all day in the water — and I couldn’t cure it, I didn’t know what to do.
When I say it was a nasty case…y’all, it was bad. It hurt him so much and it broke my heart. I tried everything: California Baby, Burt’s Bees, Desitin, Aquaphor, Vaseline, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste — the list goes on and on. Even after throwing caution (and sanity) to the wind and letting him go diaperless several days in a row — knowing that exposing it to the air might be our best bet — the rash remained. (Oh, and let me tell you how “fun” that was…cleaning up after a toddler who isn’t potty-trained is almost worse than having a new puppy.)
Finally, I called our pediatrician in hopes of getting a prescription-strength cream for my sweet baby. Instead, however, one of the nurses suggested that I try yet another remedy before bringing him in. Begrudgingly and VERY skeptically, I did exactly what she suggested. And…IT.WORKED.MIRACLES.
What you’ll need:
What you’ll do:
We noticed major results after the very first application. Immediately, G stopped complaining that his bottom hurt and the redness was pretty much gone. By day two, his rash was complete history!
Now, I’m trying to think of other things I can cure simply by coating it in Maalox…
Here’s to hoping you have the same success if you ever need this little remedy!
